SA@S is a six-week summer theater program designed for a small ensemble made up of students entering college, attending college, or recent college graduates. The experience uniquely combines Shakespeare study, ensemble training, and repertory performance. Now entering our fourth season, SA@S offers students a rigorous, collaborative, immersive, and interdisciplinary program of study. The ensemble will work in residence on the grounds of the former American Shakespeare Festival Theatre in Stratford, Connecticut, taking workshops and master classes and creating two Shakespeare productions in repertory. The summer 2017 program will run from June 26 to August 8. We seek applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Past students have joined the program from as close as Connecticut and as far as Wisconsin, Texas, California, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, and Singapore. Prior training in theater and/or Shakespeare is not a requirement for admission. Rather, we look for evidence of the applicant's desire to create, a strong work ethic, and readiness to jump in, collaborate, and take risks as part of a sustained ensemble-development process. All students will perform in both productions and rehearse and train intensively as part of the repertory company. Any applicants interested in assistant directing one of the two plays in lieu of an acting role may apply to do so. SA@S is a program of the Mighty Quinn Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to the artistic and educational opportunities for the next generation of theater artists. To begin your application, please select “Summer 2017 Ensemble” from the drop-down menu on the left. Please feel free to email us at tellmemore@shakespeareacademystratford.org with any questions about the application process. Once we review your application materials, we may contact you to schedule an interview. Note that there is a $30 fee to apply through Acceptd. If the application fee presents a substantial restriction to your ability to apply, please email the program at tellmemore@shakespeareacademystratford.org for consideration for a fee waiver. Tuition to attend the Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford is $3750. Housing is provided by the Mighty Quinn Foundation in the local community of Stratford, CT. All travel, food and personal expenses during the summer are the responsibility of the student. For additional tuition and residential details, please visit shakespeareacademystratford.org/apply.
