Quinn Rooney was a man of kindness, love, and humility. A man for others.
A Fairfield Prep graduate, longtime resident of Stratford, CT, and Loyola University Chicago student, Quinn was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) in 2007. He fought hard throughout high school and his first few years at Loyola, but lost his battle on June 22nd, 2012.
As Quinn’s friends, we felt a call to help support his family. We knew they wanted to form a 501(c-3) charity that would finance educational programs and theatre workshops in Quinn's honor. We brainstormed fundraising ideas that would help make this happen and conceived the mini golf tour - a grand prix of local miniature golf courses that would allow us to spread awareness for DIPG and raise money for what would become the Mighty Quinn Foundation. To turn this into a fundraiser, we reached out to family, friends and colleagues and requested donations through pledges - a small amount of money promised for every Hole-in-One we earned on the tour.
In August 2012, we embarked on our first mini golf tour of northwestern and coastal Connecticut. Two days of putting, driving, and high-fiving later, we earned exactly 50 Holes-in-One and raised over $3,000. We have since continued the tradition by hosting the tour in Long Island (August 2013) and Cape Cod (September 2015), raising close to $10,000.
The 2017 tour will be our first interstate tour, taking place in Eastern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and western Massachusetts. We are planning out our route, lodging and custom tour shirts, and we are currently accepting donations through pledges. If you would like to make a pledge, please fill out the form below:
